2017 Predictions in area of workplace investigations

  1. Trump!!  Really???!  OK, now that I got that out of my system…I remember when I first began my EEO training in employment law and its association with investigative work back in the late 80’s, my trainer stated, “As long as persons discriminate against each other, you will always have a job.”  Sadly, I have found this to be true.  As we approach 2017, my first prediction is that there will be an increase in the number of complaints lodged nationwide.  Given the current attitude seemingly sanctioned by the highest elected official in this country, women, Latinos, the disabled, people of faith and color in the workplace will be faced with more ridicule, scorn, derision, political teasing and discrimination whether harassment or other forms of harm.  WE who investigate alleged claims of discrimination must keep our ethical ideals in perspective and ask ourselves, “Was it possible or probable?”  Evidence can be black or white, but shades of gray might need to be addressed as well (through history of probability or possibility) as it relates to past discriminatory activities….this ensures fairness in our investigative work.   what is your prediction related to this for the future?
